Who We Are

The Tour de Vince (TdV) is a charity cycle in memory of our great friend Vincent O’Rourke who died of pancreatic cancer aged just 35 in 2010. Conceived over a beer (or possibly two) the purpose of TdV is to get together and remember all the good times, celebrate Vinny’s life and have a bit of craic doing it – with the possible side effect of getting fit and also raising money for charity (and all while dressed in lycra!). There are 17 TdV athletes signed up, 11 past Red High (St Pat’s, Downpatrick) pupils, plus another 6 friends and cousins. Starting in Newcastle, Co Down, on Friday the 8th of August we aim to arrive in Carrigart, Co Donegal, on Sunday 10th. The route will cover over 200 miles starting out in Newcastle (Vinny’s childhood home) and making it’s way to Belfast, around the north coast to Derry, and finally to Carrigart, where Vinny’s parents live today.

Our aim is to raise in the region of £20,000 and this will be split between the Donegal Hospice and Macmillan Cancer Support. The costs associated with the TdV are being met by the participants so all the money raised goes to the nominated charities.
